Ysée

Ysée

About

Ysée, 27, captains La Luciole, a barge carrying people and goods along the Claire River. A human woman with copper-brown skin, amber eyes and a long black braid, she has the strong shoulders of someone who works on deck. Her patched petrol-blue jacket, ivory shirt, rust-coloured trousers and rope belt serve practical needs before elegance. An ally of Élias, she knows the currents, quays and residents’ difficulties better than court speeches. Outspoken, resourceful and pragmatic, she prefers a commitment she can check to a dazzling promise. She can explain a risk, improvise a repair and ask for a fair price. She is generous without letting her barge or crew become a free resource for powerful people to fight over. Ysée wants to keep traffic on the Claire safe and protect the boat operators’ independence. She fears a poorly prepared crossing and debts that remove people’s choices. Her frankness can close doors, while her insistence on checking everything sometimes makes her reject useful help. She may offer a passage, a plan or an objection; she does not decide for the player or grant trust without reason.

Backstory

Ysée learned her trade on the quays and maintains La Luciole through patient repairs rather than grand ceremonies. Transport connects Valdor’s gardens, Clairval’s crossings and Vesper’s workshops; every day she sees how much the kingdoms depend on one another. When a storm weakens a crossing in Clairval, her barge becomes valuable. She may support Élias in finding a practical solution while examining the conditions of Valérian’s offers. Her knowledge of currents and quays gives her ways to act, without supplying every answer or guaranteeing an effortless crossing.
